The sister imprint of Nyege Nyege Tapes, Hakuna Kulala, has launched a white-label vinyl series.
The first release to be pressed up is an EP from Durban producer Menzi (pictured), Impazamo, which was originally put out as digital-only in April 2020. Out on August 27th, a six-track EP from Kampala-based producer OYISSE, Elembo, will follow.
Hakuna Kulala's parent label, Nyege Nyege Tapes has also announced the release of Den Haag-based producer De Schuurman's debut LP, Bubbling Inside. Titled after the bubbling genre born in Den Haag's Club Voltage in the late '80s, the record is chock-full of trap percussion, dubstep and bass.
Arlen Dilsizian and Derek Debru founded the Kampala-based label Nyege Nyege Tapes in 2013. This year, the imprint has released music from Metal Preyers, Nilotika Drum Ensemble, Nilotika Cultural Ensemble and more.
