Oroko Radio, an Accra-based community online radio station, has unveiled its first round of residents.
Cofounded by Kikelomo, Nico Adomako, Naëmi Ada and Truseye, the platform aims to highlight the work of Ghanaian, African and Afrodiasporic artists, as well as foster greater collaboration and community within the Ghanian scene. Its name is derived from Àrokò, a traditional means of non-verbal communication employed in pre-literate Yoruba society.
The station's initial 70 residents will include Karen Nyame KG, Blaq Pages, Menzi, Jaymie Silk, Jessicunt and co-founder Kikelomo. 50 percent of the roster, which features artists from 15 countries, are based in Ghana. The inaugural show will air Thursday, January 27th at 5 PM UTC.
