- Out now, the 192-page title focusses on 1988 and the parties that defined the Second Summer of Love.
Photographer Dave Swindells has released a new, 192-page book about the rise of acid house in the UK.
Featuring 223 photos, Acid House As It Happened focusses on the year 1988 and the parties—including iconic raves like Shoom, Trip and Adrenalin—in depots, fields and car parks that defined the Second Summer of Love. Many of the images have never been published or haven't been seen for decades.
The book, which was published yesterday, May 12th, by IDEA, includes a foreword by music journalist and author Sheryl Garrett, who wrote a book about acid house in 1999 called Adventures In Wonderland.
Swindells has been photographing people and nightlife since 1983. In 2020, he released another photo book, Ibiza '89, with IDEA. The first edition of Acid House As It Happened is limited to 2000 copies.
Here's the cover and some photos from Acid House As It Happened. Find out more about the book here.
