  • YXBoZXh0d2lu, an augmented reality programme linked to Aphex Twin, has emerged via QR codes from recent performances and posters around the world. Interactive Aphex Twin art appears when you first open YXBoZXh0d2lu. The main menu button directs to a navigation bar, which leads to the Aphex Twin store, the Warp Records website and the site of the app's developer, Kalkul Inc.. At the bottom, the Aphex Twin logo brings up the phone's camera, which encourages users to scan QR codes. Fans on Reddit have confirmed that various QR codes taken from Aphex Twin performances lead to the Warp website, while new posters with QR codes have also been pasted around Los Angeles today. Other record stores have also received and displayed QR code posters. The app's description refers to "WAPP480," which matches recent catalog numbers from Warp. (Squid's recent single, "Swing (In A Dream)," is numbered 7WAP478, while the latest Hudson Mohawke and Nikki Nair EP is marked WAP486.) The misspelling is believed to be an intentional pun on the word "app." All this has led users on Reddit to speculate that a new Aphex Twin release is coming on Warp later this month, or in July. A now-deleted YouTube video with a supposed leak, titled "Blackbox Life Recorder 21f," was also posted earlier today. Warp Records didn't immediately respond to Resident Advisor's request for comment. Listen to "Blackbox Life Recorder 21f."
Update, June 21st: This article was updated to include a link to Aphex Twin's new track.
