BMG & Sal P - Credit Card / Eskink

  • There's a vast backstory to this release that includes impromptu music-making sessions on three continents, marauding baboons, frisky ostriches and Cape Town vineyards. And you can kinda tell when listening to it, because there are cues from all over the world, musical and otherwise. A-side "Credit Card" is a tropical, part-New York, part-Detroit, new wave disco-inflected jam, with vintage bass bursts that simply demand you dance. If that sounds all too much, it isn't; BMG AKA Brendan M. Gillen AKA Ectomorph and Liquid Liquid man Sal Principato make it work. On the flip, "Eskink" starts with a flat house beat softened by bongos that sound lifted from Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" before evolving into a prowling, growling and poly-rhythmic number with some flicking Indian percussion and sitar sounds embedded deep within: charming stuff.
