- It says something about the standing of Neneh Cherry, some 15 years after her last meaningful release, that the ballsy Swedish singer can attract remixes from such big hitters as Four Tet and Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas. Four Tet's rethinking of "Dream Baby Dream" twists the raw vibraphone jazz and mournful brass passages of the original into a slow-burning house mood piece, using just a mere sliver of Cherry's vocals. Picking up the pace towards the end, it eventually runs out as a sax-parping freakout stomp.
There are fewer surprises with Messrs Lindstrøm and Thomas' approach to "Cashback." Another feature-length cosmic disco odyssey, it's ushered in by what sounds like finger pianos, infusing the first quarter of the track with a distinct African influence. It then settles into a booming, trashy dance floor thrash of riotous baritone saxophone, low-slung live bass and Jan Hammer-style keys. The early '80s atmosphere is so evident that you can probably spot some shoulder pads and hairspray in there too if you look closely enough.
