Morning Factory - Anna Logue's Sleepover

  • There's a good 4,000 miles between Chicago and the Netherlands, but Morning Factory have been making that distance seem negligible since they started releasing records in 2010. Their sound is a pretty fantastically reverent one—churning drum machines anchor a generally old-fashioned sound palette—but they bring enough firepower to their tracks that they feel like more than mere facsimiles. That basically summarizes the Clone Jack For Daze Series remit, which means that Morning Factory's entry, comprising the label's 14th release, is both a perfect fit and business as usual. It's a solid old-school jam, and that's about all there is to say about it. With rainy-day chords and driving, Tevo Howard-esque Roland programming, Jozef Lemmens and Pierre van der Leeuw settle into a groove that's equal parts emotive and utilitarian. "Sleepwalk" distinguishes itself a bit more. At first blush, it points toward Geeeman's "Bang't," one of the series' recent big hits, but Morning Factory once again infuse their weighty drum programming with an emotionally resonant melody, adding a pinch of nuance where others might have only thought to jack.
