- Two fresh remixes of a "femxle empowerment anthem."
- Glasgow's LAPS, AKA Alicia Matthews and Cassie Ezeji, follow their "femxle empowerment anthem" "Who Me?" with a pair of remixes by other women, plus M. Geddes Gengras. Played at Rihanna's Savage X Fenty fashion show, the track was the highlight of LAPS's 2017 Who Me? EP. Like much of what's happening in the scene centred around Glasgow's Green Door Studio and Ezeji's other band, Golden Teacher, LAPS builds on the UK's long history of post-punk and dub. Think The Slits, or when the group's singer, Ari Up, turned their reggae-driven basslines into full-blown riddims with New Age Steppers.
The original "Who Me?" is already pretty much perfect, with a growling low-end, infectious call-and-response vocals and minimal beats. That said, it could be more DJ-friendly, which is exactly what frequent collaborators D.Tiffany and Roza Terenzi achieve with their remix. Their love for '90s house and techno shines through, heard in the rework's breaks and filtered vocals. M. Geddes Gengras adds his stamp as Duppy Gun, the production project he founded in Jamaica with Sun Araw. He takes more liberties with his remix, burying fragments of Ezeji's vocals in eclectic mass media samples, drum machine rhythms and synth flourishes.
Who Me? Remixes was co-released with MIC.
