- A transfixing track from an artist to watch.
- The London-born vocalist George Riley only has a few songs to her name, such as 2019's "Herstory" and this summer's "Move." Then there's FAUZIA's Are You Hoping For A Miracle? EP, on which Riley is credited alongside Kelela. But despite her lean catalogue and online presence, Riley already counts the likes of Moses Boyd and Benji B as fans.
Listen to Riley's music and it'll become clear why: her voice is transfixing. She's the kind of lyricist whose words flow frankly and conversationally, without too much effort or thought, which makes for stunning music that's as confident as it is vulnerable.
Riley explores a new direction on "TRIXXX," another link-up with the skilful producer Oliver Palfreyman. As young artists creating in a forward-facing, interconnecting landscape, the track is less about genre and more about invention and ingenuity. "TRIXXX" isn't one style, but an organic fusion of several. There are elements of the Bristol sound—trip-hop, for example. Jazz-inflected vocals and other unpredictable motifs also shine through. There are powerful messages about the use of social media, toxic self-comparison and society's self-absorption. It'll be interesting to see where Riley goes next.
