- It was an exciting event when I first listened to Joey Negro's newest endeavor on Defected's In The House series. At that moment I felt as if I was in my parents basement going through all of my fathers disco records wishing that I had grown up in the 70's with all of the great music of the era.
This new double-disc is chock full of hearty disco, electro and house forming one of - if not the best collection of dance music I've ever heard. There is so much great music here making this album a must hear for anyone who loves to "get down."
If I didn't know better I'd swear that this selection would have been compiled by James Brown himself judging from the soul oozing through my speakers. So much that the irresistible two and four claps caused me much embarrassment at a few stoplights.
Despite the perfect selection of soul tunes here we've also got some great percussive pieces and even reach into some techy and progressive sounds. This diversity is very welcoming as it's put together in a way that is both tasteful and entertaining.
Between two discs we hear artists including Two Tons of Fun, Erotic Drum Band, Dimitri, Brenda Taylor, DJ Chus, Jon Cutler and Glenn Underground amongst many other timeless acts. Overall, Negro's managed to combine over 40 tunes into the space of just over 2 hours. We've got the best of both worlds when considering quantity and quality.
Joey Negro's contribution to Defected's In The House series will be hitting shelves on March 8th, 2005.
