Emeka Ogboh - Danfo Mellow

  • Memories from the hustle and bustle of Lagos city condensed into a dreamlike groove.

  • When he moved to Berlin, Emeka Ogboh couldn't sleep because of how quiet it was compared to Lagos, calling it "the city that's never silent." "Danfo Mellow" is a highlight off of the installation artist's new LP for A-TON. The title references Lagos' signature yellow shared taxis, danfos. Woodblocks and punchy kicks shuffle along, as the sounds of turbulent traffic and haggling in busy markets are woven into a slinky groove. It conjures a palpable Lagosian atmosphere, one that just won't sit still—a daydream on a morning commute, and a defiant display of warmth in the aftermath of the city's recent EndSWAT killings.
