Lucy Duncombe - Brace

  • A rich and theatrical vocal composition.

  • There's nothing subtle about the A-side of Lucy Duncombe's debut 10-inch for 12th Isle. "Brace" starts in technicolor with dazzling flourishes of minor key orchestration before the real drama arrives with Duncombe's voice. As she sings across the song's eight minutes, her voice is manipulated through a wide variety of filters, sometimes crisp and organic, other times completely devoid of humanity. The effect falls somewhere between Fantasia and Holly Herndon records. In short, a striking wax debut for the composer and vocalist.
