- The light tinge of pop drum & bass must've smelled like an obvious opportunity to the good folks at Ninja Tune. Armed with a lovely track from Bonobo that ticked a number of boxes, they've done the same with their trio of remixers of "Eyesdown." On one hand you have Floating Points, whose young career has been typified by finding a safe place in between soulful deep house and dubstep. His 130 BPM remix does the same, armed with a breakbeat that should find favor with dubstep DJs, and plenty of analogue warmth to satisfy the wary house jock.
Points increases the pace of the original but not as much Warrior One, whose refix clocks in at 140. It's funky, in both senses of the word, bringing house stabs to the party along with quick hitting drums that threaten to overpower things at any moment. Singer Andreya Triana is never far away, however, and lightens things considerably on this and Appleblim & Komonazmuk's take. The latter is house all the way, finding itself at 120 BPM. The Bristol duo have worked plenty at this tempo before, but it sounds awkward this time around, as though the two can't quite figure out what particular elements to foreground and which to leave behind. Far from a beautiful mess, though, you can tell that their aims are more pop-oriented. It's clear that, for now at least, they should leave those concerns to the professionals—like Bonobo and his masterful original.
