About

  • Between the Marolles and the elegant Louise district lies Poelaert Square. This is the place to be for stunning panoramic views of the (lower) city. On the horizon are architectural gems such as the Basilica of Koekelberg and the Atomium. Since 2019, the Ferris wheel 'The View' has been here and you can admire the Belgian capital from no less than a hundred metres up! At 750 m², Poelaertplein is also the capital's largest square. It was named after Joseph Poelaert, the architect of the courthouse. That is the monumental courthouse you see on this square, a mastodon from the 19th century. Meanwhile, the scaffolding in which the courthouse has been packed for years is part of the collective memory.
