- From warm-up sets, opening a night and setting the vibe up for the likes of Luciano, Steve Lawler, Sasha, Timo Maas, Lee Burridge and the likes to mainroom’s at their peak, Nelson is a dj who knows what his role is and when to play it.The start of his career in 1989 was long before dj’s got any recognition, never mind press, he was playing all night sets in Johannesburg’s clubs and later partly responsible for the start and rise of the early raves he swiftly became a respected name in the country’s club circles. It all started at a club in Joburg’s city centre (Le Club) which was famed for pushing the alternative and indie scene and there was where he started playing an eclectic mix that would include anything from Joy Division, Stone Roses or Simple Minds and Blondie which then set him off into the bigger clubs namely Bella Napoli, White Horse and Masquerade which all were institutions in Johannesburg’s nightlife. However, it was in the mid 90’s is where he kicked off A 6 year residency at ESP in Jo’burg, made Sunday afternoons at the infamous club unforgettable as did his own Friday club, Flyhouse playing house music sets that earned him a gig schedule taking him to all corners of the country playing huge warehouse raves alongside the likes of Carl Cox, Frankie Knuckles (RIP) and many more. He established himself as a confident DJ, playing major events like Mother Productions, Ministry of Sound, ICE, Cream, Womad, Amnesia and Pacha tours, some with audiences close to 20.000 people. This established him to a point where he initiated and started the release of dj mix compilations and went on to release nine cd compilations. After leaving SA for Europe to learn and get into production he then ended up in Dubai in 2006 where he went on to establish residencies at the biggest clubs including Trilogy and his long standing residency at the infamous Peppermint Club which hosted the world’s biggest dj’s every week and has since played many key venues include Sanctuary, Nassimi Beach, Allure by Cipriani and Creamfields (Abu Dhabi)
