- Akiko Haruna is a producer, vocalist and performer who manipulates sound and rhythm into high-voltage, cathartic forms.With a background in experimental dance and fluent in the rules of music and mixed-media composition, they are able to bend and break those disciplines throughout their productions, pushing at the boundaries of raucous pop, club-ready percussion, dense electronics and expansive soundscapes with euphoria and poise. Their debut EP ‘Be Little Me’, which they wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed, was released on Numbers in late 2021, following previous releases on labels like Timedance and Where To Now? The six tracks on ‘Be Little Me’ channel potent, visceral moods, marrying dance music and elastic sound design with a commitment to exposing emotions through a consciously DIY approach, anchored by meditations on gender, race and heritage.
