  • Over the past decade, Minnesota-based Egyptian artist Baher Eid has forged himself as a fierce DJ within Cairo's thriving electronic music scene.
    From a DJ standpoint, Baher is in full control of a distinct sound reflecting years of traversing different spectra of genres within techno and house music, as he seamlessly threads through by focusing on the energy of playing records. His introduction to the electronic music realm came to be at an early age, which sprouted akin when he started collecting early 00's progressive-house, all the way through to the Global Underground CDs and bleeps of electro that were broken down into the genre fusion that he currently plays. He embarked on his professional journey as a resident DJ of the Cairo-based party series Nacelle’s ‘House Sessions’ held at The Temple circa. 2012. From warming up the club nights, as well as headlining these years, came to be formative in solidifying Baher’s name in the electronic music community. Over the years, he boasted an eclectic musical repertoire, cultivated through years of diligent digging. Which helped him get booked for various genres, whether through sharing the bills with artists such as DVS1, Matrixxman, and Anthony Parasole, or alongside the likes of Jamie Jones, Dixon and Âme. His ability to radiate an invigorating energy through his DJ sets has not gone unnoticed by Egyptian party promoters, who have come to trust his exceptional skills in raising the bar each time he spun the decks. Born in Minnesota and nurtured in the densely populated, overcrowded metropolis of Cairo, Baher felt it was equally vital for him and other local musicians to reflect the city's emerging electronic music scene. In 2020, he founded Cairo-based ‘Rakete’, a record label exploring underground music from the city's deepest corners, pushing versatile multicultural sounds that express the immense energy resulting from a noisy yet colourful upbringing. The imprint has issued its productions through multiple mediums, including vinyl, digital, and cassette, with physical distribution through Berlin's 60waves store (formerly known as KMA60). In addition to its musical output, the label synergises with local brands to offer merchandise, and regularly hosts the 'Nile09' series, inviting a roster of artists with whom the label has fostered relationships over time.
