COMPLETE BIO BARRY WEAVER has been DJing for over 26 years, beginning in LA in the mid-eighties. Music has always played a crucial role in his life – his fascination with it began when he started playing saxophone at the age of nine. Choir and theater soon followed, helping him to gain a love of performance and a broad base of musical exposure. Diving headfirst into San Francisco's late-70's music culture, the California native found inspiration in its discos as well as live music clubs. He cites DJ Bobby Viteritti and SF’s Trocadero Transfer as having a profound, life-changing effect on him; Viteritti’s bold, unique approach to mixing and his masterful, epic sets motivated Barry to eventually become a DJ himself. Moving up and down the West Coast in the early 80s, he took part in San Francisco and Los Angeles' Disco, New Wave and Punk scenes as well as many now-legendary mid-eighties underground parties – parties that uncannily resembled what would eventually come to be known as the Rave scene. Barry’s musical influences can be traced back to those seminal years: Disco, Soul, Funk, New Wave, Punk, early Hip Hop, and the first wave of Chicago/Acid House and Detroit Techno – these were the influences that, to this day, have continued to inform his career as both DJ and producer. Long before the DJ became the cultural icon it is today, he was among a handful involved in the foundations of LA’s Rave/Acid House scene, making a name for himself as one of the first generation Rave DJs. An early champion of House, Techno and Breaks, he quickly progressed in the City of Angels, playing countless events and clubs. His reputation and demand as a forward-thinking DJ quickly grew in the 90s, giving him the opportunity to play extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico and helping to establish his name on both a national and international level. A consummate record collector, Barry has always spent many long hours digging for music. The owner of Prime Cuts, one of LA’s first DJ record shops, took notice and hired him in 1986. He would eventually put in over 15 years’ work at many of the West Coast’s most notable shops. Those years were invaluable in helping to tune his skills as a selector, tastemaker and above all, as a DJ. Between 2001 and 2008 Barry put his considerable experience and talent to work as a promoter in San Diego, producing various weekly and one-off club nights. His Electroluxe, Vice/Versa and Dos Tres events all sought to challenge people’s expectations of what a club night should look, sound and feel like. Tiga, Claude VonStroke, Radio Slave, Audiojack, Maurice Fulton, Mike Simonetti, Worthy, Jesse Rose, Audiofly, DJ Kaos, In Flagranti, Tommie Sunshine and Deadmau5 are among the many DJs and producers he introduced to San Diego. Over the years he has DJed alongside many of the biggest names in the industry including Richie Hawtin, Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Felix Da Housecat, Armand Van Helden, Steve Lawler, Nic Fanciulli, Green Velvet, and many more. Barry was one of the original members of the West Coast’s infamous Funky Tekno Tribe crew, along with DJ Dan, DJ Sneak, Tony Hewitt, Graeme and Jeno. Barry is currently part of LA’s Saturday Night Sessions / Go Ventures team and is one of their resident DJs. Although he proudly considers himself first and foremost a DJ, he also produces music, both solo, and with his longtime friend DJ Dan under their EZDB collaboration. A firm foundation based in years of experience and a keen instinct for what lies ahead allow Barry to mine past and present alike; moving, challenging and always pushing the envelope. "I've always found myself connecting the dots between the music that initially inspired me with current sounds that really move me, fusing those classic sounds with contemporary House and Techno." Over the years Barry has proven himself to be a diverse and adventurous force in dance music and he's showing no signs of slowing down.
