Caoimhe Moreland is a serial winner. The Belfast-based DJ only started practicing in her bedroom in January 2019 but by the end of that year, she had won a competition to support Octo Octa at Breezblock in the Northern Irish capital, won the AVA Emerging DJ competition which got her the opening main-stage set at that year’s event and won a Mixmag and Coors Light DJ competition which saw her play a set in Mixmag’s Lab. The 24-year-old who fell for dance music after watching the likes of Robert Hood and Alan Fitzpatrick at The Bunker in Derry around 2014, decided to give it a shot as a DJ after reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. “It’s a book about the laws of attraction and how you can get anything you want if you just think about it work hard,” she tells us. “It changed how I think and things just seem to be going very well because of it now.” But we’d argue her success is more down to her infectious energy behind the decks and astute track selection than any lessons learned in a self help book. “Music that elicits joy,” is how Caoimhe describes her DJing style, citing Best Modus supremo Cinthie as a key influence on her sets. With warm-ups for the likes of Jackmaster and Palms Trax already under her belt and plans to start producing her own tracks too, expect to hear plenty more from Caoimhe in the future.
