  • North London DJ, Producer and Remix badboy has been remixing and devoloping his sound for years and this has culminated in a fine body of work. Fresh from Djing with Hot Chip, A-Skillz and many other high profile acts, CSY is putting his stamp on the i..
CSY has taken London by the scruff of its neck and given it a real good shake. The London based DJ and Producer has emerged as being one of the hottest properties of 2009 receiving plaudits from such icons as Diplo, Tommie Sunshine and Loose Cannons. However it has been a long a winding road for CSY, keen not to be a flash in the plan, he has been immersing himself in what has loved since childhood. CSY’s first love was Hip Hop, the early works of J. Dilla and Tribe Called Quest stirred a love for music which led him to jump into the cut throat world of promoting. But true to form the young Londoner was running his own nights at Cargo at the tender age of 16. Spurred on by his passion for the genre, he ran Ill Commotion for four years showcasing some of the freshest talent and household names in London and the US. Having become disillusioned with the state of the Hip Hop scene he looked for inspiration elsewhere and retired from promoting to concentrate on DJing. His skills soon started raising eyebrows and his natural ability and smooth style wowed crowds and decimated dancefloors all over the country. Not bound by reputation, CSY played an eclectic mix of tracks that he loved, pure unadulterated fun music. His distinctive DJ style and effervescent personality led him to play with the likes of Herve, Plump DJs, Freeform Five, Hot Chip and A-Skillz. This time was key in CSY’s development and he soon became adept to owning dancefloors. It soon became plain to see that CSY always had the crowd eating out the palm of his hand. Developing his sound was the next key stage, he needed to hone the undoubted talent that was bubbling up inside him and so he delved deep into elements of electro, deep house and techno whilst still having a hold on his hip hop roots. Teaming up with Aaron Horn (Son of Trevor Horn) he started to add producing to his formidable repertoire of skills, they spent time forming the foundations for CSY at the Sarm Studios in West London. Horn was so impressed by CSY’s creative flair, innovative style and eye for detail he signed CSY to Horn’s Publishing label Mai Plues. This was the start of big things for the boy and his love of producing was evident to all who heard his early material. However he was still somewhat of an unknown quantity to the public so he started making his own quirky bootlegs to raise his profile. These early productions stormed the blogs and his mixtapes for Dance on Glass spread like wildfire through the blogosphere. People were enchanted with his relentless tempo, bouncy, fizzing tone and seamless mixing. The ‘CSY’ name seemed to be a whisper in the ears of the industry and it was time to kick it up a notch. After burning the midnight oil, the result of a few remixes led to his name being bellowed from the rooftops. His addictive, infectious remix of The Bucketheads anthem The Bomb was the catalyst, and blogs, DJs and Media had a feeding frenzy on the CSY brand. However this was just the beginning as he still had an ace up his sleeve, and multiple edits, he released the CSY remix of Diplo’s 2008 behemouth Must Be A Devil on the world. Who could have predicted the effects this track had on his peers. Its slick production, jackin melodies and a drop that reduced stomaches to jelly, made this a recipe for an unanswerable aural weapon. The reaction to this track was immediate and explosive. Mad Decent instantly posted it on their blog and Diplo himself was dropping it in his sets during his US tour. Loose Cannons popped it on during their Kiss FM show, Kissy Sell Out played it on Radio 1 and it has been a frequent flyer on air from Detroit to Berlin. His own productions have been doing the rounds at the WMC in Miami this year and have been making asses shake and feet wiggle till the early hours. CSY is most definitely enjoying the fruits of his labours and this seems to be a dawn of a new age for the silky smooth songsmith. Watch this space…..
