D-Laid, by his real name George Nicolae is one of the most important DJs, producers and promoters on the romanian electronic music scene. Hailing from Bucharest, he starts his DJ and producer career at the early age of 17, in the late ’90s. Shortly after he manages to leave his mark on the representative sound of Bucharest’s electronic music as well as on the sound coming from the other „electronic music capital” from back in the day – Timisoara. His fingerprint is still here for more than 10 years now. As a producer we can easily say D-Laid is a name that always managed to raise the stakes for most of the other Romanian producers out there. 1998 is the year that marks his debut as his first tune gets in heavy rotation on the FM at Fun Radio. In 2000 one of his new tunes – Changing Ethnic Profile is signed and released on the TM00Base Festival official compilation. The same period of time means another track – 313 – selected and signed by Radio France International to appear on another compilation – Couleurs De Bucharest. This particular one is a big step forward for George, as it is selected from more than 300 entries. In 2003 a new compilation – TM02Base sees a new D-Laid track signed and released – Torny – and the same year he remixes and releases Atac La Persoana – Suie Paparude’s highly-appreciated single. In 2004 he signs no less than 3 tracks for the TM04Base compilation – 2000 Watti feat. Junkyard (Suie Paparude), Unstable feat. TRG and a remix for the Alternative Rock band Alternosfera – Wamintirile. Each and every of these tunes will be released on vinyl that year. The EP goes quickly around the world as the tracks get in heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, Breaks FM, iBreaks, Proton Radio and get played by DJs like Emmanuel Fereira, Aquasky, Jay Cunning, Palotai, Ed 2000, Angus Robinson, Phantom Beats or Bengston. Wamintirile gets played at the biggest Breakbeat Festival in the world – Breakspoll and in the legendary Spectrum club. The same year means new additions to the record labels list he was already figured on. After Roton, Nrg!a, Mediapro Music, RFI, Era, EMI and Sub Records a new huge name from the Techno scene signs him – Skills Records. He will have 3 tracks figured on the De La Hoya festival compilations in 2004 and 2005 – The Message, 2000 Watti and New Colours. In 2005 he continues collaborating with Roton and signs a remix for Activ – the Superstar track and in 2007 he switches to Cat / Sony and signes a remix for Directia 5’s Stai! Nu Ma Ocoli track. This latter one jumped straight to the top on the radio and on TV as well, on MTV Top 40, while the original wins „Best Pop” at the MTV Music Awards Romania. But D-Laid also means a huge name on the DJ scene in Romania, a name that immediately sparks in your mind if you were a raver back in the days. He started DJ-ing in 1999 and, just one year later, he is DJ-ing at TM00Base Festival in Timisoara for more than 1500 people. The following years of his career are dedicated to building up a solid electronic music scene in Bucharest. Here he spins in a couple of legendary clubs like Web Club, DV8, Space, Studio Martin, Club Kogal, Gossip or Underworld and at clubnights that will remain in the clubbing history – Atomfast, Synthplants, SoundKraft, Tralala & Substil and many more. Once the scene started supporting itself in Bucharest, D-Laid becomes a mandatory name on any line-up with a foreign headliner. So, in 2005-2012, he ends up sharing the decks with names like Krafty Kuts, Meat Katie, Plump DJs, Deekline, The Freestylers, Alex Metric, Andy C, Modestep, Trolley Snatcha, Evil Nine, Utah Saints, Dylan Rhymes, Atomic Hooligan, Elite Force, Hyper, Lady Waks, NAPT, DJ Food, Aquasky, The Rogue Element, Baobinga and many more, in almost all the important clubs in Romania and at the biggest festivals around the country – Sunwaves, TMBase, Peninsula Felsziget, B'Estfest, or Ekzit Festival. Meanwhile his name is frequently associated with brands like Nights.ro, Sunrise, The Mission or booking agencies like Forward – one of the first dedicated agency in Romania. His future plans include a new EP that will hit the shelves this autumn, more gigs all over the country and beyond the borders and as a promoter he promises that the Selectro clubnight still has a couple of aces in it’s sleeve.
