- Blair French, music producer + visual artist from the Detroit area. Owner of Fat Finger Cosmic and half of Cosmic Handshakes, NOIS LAND, and BLKSHRK Formally known as DIAL.81.BLAIR FRENCH is a music producer and visual artist from greater Detroit. He is the founder of Fat Finger Cosmic (FFC), a label originally started for his film work and has now become a home for creative minds. French began his career as an emcee in the mid 90's, releasing group and solo projects under the alias DIAL81. In 2010, his creative interests shifted. French went on to explore new musical styles, collage art, and the world of performance art. By 2011, (inspired by seeing a deer in the city), French was experimenting more with ambient music. He found this as a detachment from ego driven genres, and a way to create music without expectation or identity value. These songs would later become the score for Detropia, awarding French with 'Best Original Score' from Cinema Eye Honors in 2012. Simultaneously, French released Luminous Stasis featuring vocalist Paul Randolph. The EP was Blair's electronic debut, released on M1-Sessions. The record became a go to for deejays like Theo Parrish and opened new opportunities for French as an artist. In 2013, with his brother Todd Modes, Cosmic Handshakes released The Delicate Details. A 5 song EP built around warm Rhodes, sax, and downbeat rhythms. The record didn't catch on right a way, but over time became a must have for heads around the world. French took a break between 2013-2015 to rethink his direction. Just before formulating FFC, French began making noise again. He made the front cover of Detroit Electronic Quarterly Magazine, issue #6, released his ambient debut, Through The Blinds on Delsin Records, multiple cassette tape projects, and a split 12" featuring BLKSHRK (Eddie Logix + Blair French) and Topher Horn.
