  • A French Techno diptych, Di Martinelli’s Alta Viskosa EP veers from deeply felt animal beats to soothing 90s sounds. Tension, release, catharsis.
Being an 80s kid, DI MARTINELLI gorged on everything he could find in his father’s record collection. In The Future, these influences would lace his own recordings, resulting in deeply felt techno beats with sophisticated electronica sampled straight out of Antwerp nightlife. Things turned poppy with the addition of Sophie Galpin’s voice, appearing on two tracks that cut deep without ever losing touch with the dance floor. DI MARTINELLI’s latest recording goes by the name of Alta Viskosa, an EP in which he returns to a path dotted with (French) Techno influences. On the one hand, Alta is an animal track. Untamed, exhilarating and breathless, its tune reverberates against club walls with a slight sound of unease and discord that only adds to the mystery. Its counterpart, Viskosa, soothes with memories of 90s clubs in the overlaid higher notes and deep droning bass below, balanced by contemporary cymbal crashes. Tension. And release. And the catharsis you’re left with when the last bleep suddenly holds its breath at the end, leaving you aching for more. Clare Records, DI MARTINELLI’s indie record label since 2014, serves as the basis for this and future releases.
