  • Disko was one of the first DJ's to merge from the berlin underground techno scene. The man eats, sleeps and breaths Techno. He has had residencies at the legendary E-werk, Tresor and Berghain. Now he dj's very low profile.
Disko(Daniel Bier) was born in 1969. He was raised by a mother who had a passion for black music and a father who loved country and folk music. He got his first record when he was three years old and his first drumkit at the age of 5. When he went to highschool at 16 years old he made his first steps with dj-ing. When he was a teenager he went clubbing in the Planet in Berlin. There he saw DJ "Magic" Jonzon(Jürgen Stöckemann) play and then it became clear for him that he wanted to be a professional DJ. After some time Jonzon asked him to come and play there. There in 1989 he started his professional dj-career and residency at the Planet in Berlin. In the coming years he had residencies at Fischlabor, the legendary E-Werk, Tresor/Globus(together with Terrible and Clé) and Club 90 Degrees in berlin. His biggest influences were Kevin Saunderson, Surgeon, Jeff Mills, Luke Slater, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye. Mike Dunn, DJ Jonzon, DJ Spooky, Underground Resistance, Claude Young, Juan Atkins, DJ Rok, Geoff Barrow, Mushroom / Daddy G / 3D, Carl Craig, Bobby condensation, Thom Yorke and last but not least Manuel Goettsching Between 1991 and 2001, he had played at many big raves like Nature One, Big Warp, Rave & Cruise, Time Warp, Mayday and the Love Parade. This brought him in countries like Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, Mexico, Russia, Norway, Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden, Lithuania, Poland and Switserland. He didn’t like to travel but his passion brought him there. His record collection is a stunning 15.000+ records. He produced a couple of ep’s together with the legendary 3 “klang der familie” Phase. Untill 1999 Daniel was also responsible for a weekly program on VIVA House TV called Berlin house. There he talked about the music and the scene in general with guest DJ’s and musicians. He also was a spokesman for Loveparade 1998 and 1999. After various jobs in television, he worked as a music editor for Frontpage Magazine. He also worked as co-moderator with Ellen Alien in her Braincandy-Show on KISS FM Berlin. In 2001 his excursions into the television landscape has left its mark. He could no longer combine his full-time DJ career with his job. Now he work fulltime as an editor, director and producer at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) television. But his passion for techno still remained and in 2005 he sporadicly does dj appearences in and around berlin. Gigs at the Pulp Mansion, "Popmobil" parties and in the then newly established Berghain. He played there very often untill 2008. Don’t look weird if he makes his appearence somewhere behind the wheels of steel in a club in Berlin. For Disko Music is the greatest thing, whether acoustic, electronic or otherwise. Berlin is his beautiful illusion.
