if you were to meet a DJ or producer who had played at some of the biggest festivals around the world, moved half way across the globe to perfect their art, started their own record label and created their own sound, you would expect most people in the dance community to know that producer's or DJ's name. Ask Franki Juncaj how many people around the world know his name or his accolades and he will probably tell you, albeit humbly, that he doesn't much care. Born and raised in the blue collar Detroit enclave of Hamtramck, Franki Juncaj was bombarded by multicultural influence from a very early age. As the son of Albanian immigrants in the Motor City, Juncaj was being exposed to both the sounds and traditions of his parent's old world experience as well as the timeless sounds of Motown and the city's musically forward thinking attitude. Beyond these influences lies opportunity and chance. Years later, Juncaj found himself being inducted as part of the legendary Submerge crew under whose umbrella fell some of the most globally sought after names in Detroit Techno and Electro. When the Submerge operation moved from its Grand River location to its current home at 3000 W. Grand Boulevard in Detroit, Juncaj was bestowed the name DJ 3000 by Underground Resistance co-founder "Mad" Mike Banks. It was not too long after this that he founded Motech Records. For the last decade, his label has served not only as Juncaj's outlet for music, but as a launch pad for several producers around the world. A cornerstone of the Motech Records platform has always been collaboration. Juncaj has had the pleasure of collaborating with giants such as Gary Martin, Gerald Mitchell and Philadelphia's own Ursula Rucker. Along with 5 of his own full length releases, as well as numerous 12" records, Juncaj and Motech have released remixes from artists such as Ben Sims, Alexander Robotnik and Orlando Voorn. Having moved overseas to accommodate an ever growing DJ and festival schedule, Juncaj found himself based in the Netherlands. This experience not only fed his technical growth, but also served as a creative and spiritual sojourn for his music and record label. Juncaj returned to Detroit in 2011 to continue not only his musical growth, but to also expand on his professional horizons. Franki Juncaj has established himself as a working class producer and DJ who has performed around the world, whose Motech Records label has released nearly 30 12", full length and digital releases, and a man whose production style is ever evolving. While he has experienced the traditional highs of living the life of a world travelling DJ, he is now looking forward to producing music for art and film as well as expanding his production horizons past their borderless limits.
