- Futurist club musicFraxinus is DJ & producer Cameron Leaf – an artist known for direct, forward-thinking dance music. Hailing from the UK, his origins lie in the deep valleys of Devon. Here he honed his skill as a musician & producer, before joining London label Her Records in 2013. This laid the foundations for further musical discovery and stylistic exploration – cross-pollination being a cornerstone of the collective. Until 2021 his released output had been few and far between, despite each emergence turning heads & delivering highly-regarded ammunition to DJs. Highlights from this early era include the infectious Big Ria edit 'All Ends', the futurist stepper 'Stone Drums' as well as his sought-after remix of M.E.S.H.'s 'Damaged Merc' – released on special edition dubplate by PAN in 2017. Appearances on favourites such as Boiler Room, NTS & Rinse FM further provided a platform for the sounds he'd developed during this nascent period. Following a move to the Netherlands and time spent solidifying his sound, November 2021 saw the artist return from hiatus with the monolithic Position [Displacement] EP, issued on his self-release label Powerplant. Made up of tightly-wound rhythmic elements & colossal kick drums, the record served as a powerful statement of intent. The EP was soon followed by the further stripped back & purely dancefloor-focused white labels Powerplant Green & Blue, tracks from which have found favour by DJs across the spectrum, from drum & bass icon dBridge to techno legend Surgeon. As a DJ, Fraxinus’ sets echo his production style: energetic, propulsive, inventive. Operating with input from all facets of the club universe his recorded mixes, club sets and festival appearances exhibit an inspiring combination of influences, underpinned by a focus on rhythm & intensity. His productions continue to carve their own place in the bedrock of electronic music, owing to both their originality & sheer dancefloor utility.
