Growing up Funkalicious James was deeply influenced by his mothers jazz and R&B records as well as his cousins favorite hip-hop acts like Gang Starr and Arrested Development. Growing up Funkalicious James was deeply influenced by his mothers jazz and R&B records as well as his cousins favorite hip-hop acts like Gang Starr and Arrested Development. Around 2004 he got into deep house going to party at places like Cheers @ The Djoon. There he made the discovery that the music of his childhood was heavily sampled and the core of this new dance music. He was hooked and set his sights on becoming a DJ. In 2009 Funkalicious James created with his elementary school classmate Le Loup the production duo Childhood ’87. Thus in 2010 the childhood buddies released with Soul Clap a well acclaimed vinyl on Aux-rec a sublabel of Airdrop Records. Funkalicious’ Productions and DJ sets are self described as “a milkshake” of his childhood influences thru the filter of deep house.
