  • It has been said that New York City artist/producer, George Vala, once visited a remote Papa New Guinea island to record the sound of a pod of Beluga whales migrating up the coast to their breeding ground. This is untrue, yet an accurate description of..
New York City has always been a hotbed of musical talent, but every now and then an artist comes along that somehow manages to transport listeners beyond its rigid confines to another place entirely. Enter George Vala. With an extensive background in cinematic sound design, a love for world music, and an undying thirst for making people move, George’s career as an electronic artist began in 2009 at Miami’s illustrious Winter Music Conference and hasn’t slowed since. Committed to developing his skills as a DJ and producer following his performance in Miami, Vala shifted his production interests from trip hop + electronica to deep tech house + techno with close friend and early collaborator, Audioprophecy. The pair collectively gave their careers a jump-start when they signed 6 tracks to DJ Ravin’s famed Buddha-Bar series, cementing their presence in hotels, restaurants and salons for years to come. In 2012, Vala’s hard work began to pay off and his breakthrough re-edits of Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” and Marvin Gaye’s “If This World Were Mine” were released on Suara receiving critical acclaim. The release garnered the attention, and ultimately support of some of the world’s top DJs including Marco Carola, Chus & Ceballos, DJ Sneak, Darius Syrossian, Steve Lawler and more. Amongst many new notable followers, were Hamburg-based duo Frederic and Patrick of Kaiserdisco, who would prove to be one of Vala’s most meaningful connections in his career to date; the pair brought Vala to their label KD Music in 2013 with KD Music’s Summer Anthem EP, “Let Me Tell You.” Featuring rising singer/songwriter Tunde Olaniran on vocal duty, and two remixes by French producer Darlyn Vlys, “Let Me Tell You” brought Vala to the attention of techno queen, Monika Kruse. Kruse hand-selected Vala for her Terminal M Cookies Vol. 2 project, highlighting her favorite up-and-coming producers. His driving ethnic techno creation "Mikazaru" sat alongside great cuts by Ruben Mandolini, Paride Saraceni, Collective Machine & Riccardo Sabatini and marked his first vinyl release. Vala returned to KD Music in 2014 with “And Then I Met You” EP, whose title track was selected by Matthias Tanzmann in his “Best of 2014” chart. Shortly thereafter, Vala crossed paths with Spanish DJ/producer Danny Serrano. The two collaborated on a jazzy tech house track for Gunnar Stiller’s Upon You Records project called “Wag for Me.” Continuing to burn the midnight oil despite his climbing success, Vala decided to explore new territory by taking on a string of remixes for Vladimir Acic (Natural Rhythm), Right On (Zoo:Technique), David Herrero (Expectancy Records), and Collective Machine (Natura Viva). 2015 marked two monumental collaborations for Vala: The first, an old-school house cut called “Brace For The Bell” to Hector Couto’s Roush label with fellow TRES14 artist Steven Voorn and the second, an EP on Collective Machine’s Aula Records with close friends and NYC producers, Arkose. “Go Easy On Her” was released in July of 2015 and shot directly to the top of the charts with Beatport including the title track and remix by Koko in their “Top 10 Tech House” and “Top 10 Minimal” charts for the summer. The EP soon became the most successful release on Aula Records. With the success of “Go Easy On Her”, Vala was asked to headline the Vitamin Stage at one of the biggest electronic music festivals in the USA, Electric Zoo: Transformed, and played the official festival after-party with Hot Since 82 at Output. 2016 will be George Vala’s biggest year yet. He starts the year off with a remix of Arno Stolz’s “Spanish Hipster”, the debut release from his new imprint Proper Musique. His next collaboration with Arkose, “Puttanesca”, is due out this summer on Stereo Productions with a very special remix by Rafa Barrios. Expect solo EPs on Dennis Cruz’s Lemon-Aid Music and Fideles’ Hangover Music, along with the launch of Vala’s very own label venture.
