Inland (real name Ed Davenport) is a British producer, DJ and founder of Counterchange Recordings based in Berlin.
Known for his explorative techno and ambient productions, he’s released numerous EPs on his home label Counterchange, appeared on Ostgut Ton, Figure, Infrastructure, and released his debut LP on Ostgut Ton sub-label A-TON.
A passion for cerebral, hypnotic strains of electronic music led to the release of Davenport's first wave of 12"s in 2006, before his move to Berlin in 2008 and a shift towards the purist techno aesthetics of the city's most infamous sound system.
In 2012 the first signs of the Inland project were heard on Len Faki's Figure SPC imprint ('Nightfall') and Falkplatz ('Ed Davenport pres. Inland') - kicking off his regular fixture as a much-loved local at Berghain, often with 8-10 hr closing sets, and an increasingly worldwide touring schedule.
Working closely alongside US artist Function between 2014 and 2017, the pair released the comeback record for Function's Infrastructure label, with their now-legendary 'Odeon / Rhyl' EP and went on to compile the heavyweight 'Facticity' compilation, also teaming up on the soaring 'Colwyn Bay' in 2016.
Since 2013, Davenport's own Counterchange label has notched up over 40 releases - the idiosyncratic 'Solstice' EP (2013, COUNTER001) a blueprint for the label's textural and diverse sound. Primarily a home for his own productions, the label has also put out music from contemporaries like Efdemin, Cassegrain & Tin Man, Magna Pia and Distant Echoes, and offered a platform for a new-breed of producers like ASEC, Ariel Me Llamo (formerly P. Lopez), Backbone and Müzmin.
Deeply entwined with the Arts and Film Composition, a collaboration with Swiss artist Julian Charrière, the debut Inland LP ’An Invitation To Disappear' (A-TON LP 05, 2018) translates Davenport's soundtrack for Charrière's gallery-based video installation into eight tracks of rhythmically intricate electronics and spectral ambient-techno. Tracking through a palm oil plantation toward a totemic soundsystem on full blast, the LP and Film were debuted live to a full house at Berghain in September 2018.
In 2020 Inland presented a 4 x 12'' box-set compilation and DJ mix entitled 'Stream State', featuring music from contemporaries like Efdemin, Peter Van Hoesen, Joel Mull, DJ Skull, Mark Broom and many more. This was closely followed by the full-length LP, 'Potential Current' (COUTER016), and 2 acclaimed EPs of up-temp, peak-time tracks in 2022, 'Namsan' and the BRETT offshoot label (BRETT001), igniting some of Davenport's most frenetic work to date.
