- One of, if not the most noticeable and unique artist in the Kenyan DJing scene, Jahawi can lay claim to be Kenya’s first truly international dance artist. The responsibility to live up to such a unique first name is big, and Jahawi makes sure no one doubts his ability to deliver. His vibrant and energetic sets, artfully compiled to provide the crowd with their every desire, are famous for their success and long-lasting impression. Having started to DJ at only 13, Jahawi landed his first club residency at 15 and from then on his passion was cemented. Playing a mix of anything from fidget-house, electro, progressive, tech-trance to uplifting; Jahawi’s loves to mix thing’s up and his sets always prove to be spontaneous and fun, molding the sound to the occasion and really creating a bond with the crowd. In Kenya Jahawi has headlined at all the major dance events and internationally he has played from London super-club Fabric to the Malawi Lake Of Stars Festival. The jump from dj to producer was inevitable and at the age of 18 Jahawi moved to London to pursue it. At only 19 years old, having only been producing for a couple of months, Jahawi landed not one, but two remixes for legendary US house producer Armand Van Helden which came out on Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records. These were then licensed to major US label ULTRA Records and others around the world. He then went on to remix for highly acclaimed German label Kosmo records. Only in 2009 did Jahawi make the transition from remixer to artist with his first single ‘Kenya’ picked up by Solarstone and included in his latest compilation ‘Electronic Architecture’. 2009 has also been a fruitful year, with the summer release of Jahawi's first E.P. "Kenya" (Insatiable records) as well as remixes for other artists. Now, the world awaits Jahawi's second single, "It's You", which was picked up by Lyon Echo Records USA (2009). His style is a mix of beautiful, uplifting melodies, intricate African percussion and a real feel good vibe – with some naughty raw basslines thrown in every now and again - which is proving to appeal to a wide range of listeners. It is hard to tell what Jahawi will be up to next. Even his closest friends find it difficult to predict his frequently changing location, let alone what he has set out as his new conquest. However you can definitely expect more original productions, remixes and he has big plans on taking his djing to the next level!
