Pulling influences from their youths spent at hardcore and rave parties, an immense love for U.K. bass, LA beats and other unconventional club music, their range is boundless and their music and DJ sets burst with dynamics. On the dance floor, they reimagine rave aesthetics into energetic moody soundscapes and search for contrast within the rich textural sonic landscape of forward- thinking club music. They find obscure threads across all styles and knit them together into their own shimmering tapestry. Know V.A. refuse to be a one-tempo and one-genre act; it simply isn’t possible. Through their decade long run in Amsterdam, Know V.A. have always remained ahead of the curve. In the early 2010s they were the go-to support for Warp, LuckyMe, R&S, Ninja Tune, and Tri Angle acts traveling through Amsterdam and hosted their own progressive concert series HOAX, where they introduced Dutch audiences to pioneering artists like Mumdance, Machinedrum, Visionist and Jon Hopkins. In 2018, they launched a new series of club nights, Strange Days, that predicated the gabber and hardcore transmutant revival across the club world. Strange Days fused the past and future, juxtaposing hardcore legends like DJ Promo and DJ Ruffneck alongside the future sounds of Genome 6.66 Mbp and Gabber Eleganza, truly melding the two worlds together half a decade before it became ubiquitous. Their own compositions have evolved wildly, from elementary beats to amorphous hypnotic amalgamations of trance, grime, gabber and experimental sound-design. Finding homes on boutique labels like Signal Life and Knives, their productions have also been featured in Calvin Klein ads and the acclaimed hardcore documentary Thunderdome Never Dies. They have contributed to compilations by Life From Earth x Never Sleep, commissioned work for Eye Filmmuseum and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and collaborated with artists like LYZZA and Slikback. In 2023, Know V.A. will present their most refined version of themselves. Restrained, cinematic and rhythmic melancholy. Know V.A. are one of the Netherlands most singular musical talents. Their musical versatility is at home at illegal raves, major festivals like Lowlands and Defqon.1, electronic arts festivals like Fiber Festival or Prague’s Lunchmeat, Boiler Room, contemporary art museums like the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Eye Filmmuseum and Asia’s underground nightclubs. They have performed sets across renowned international radio stations like BBC 1Xtra, NTS, Rinse FM, SHCR, Red Light Radio and host a monthly slot at Echobox Radio.
