  • Lola de la Mata is a London born French/Spanish conceptual sound artist, composer, curator and musician (violin/voice/theremin). Tinnitus and aural diversity are at the core of her research practice, inspiring glass, metal, and ceramic musical instruments.
    Her Debut Album 'Oceans on Azimuth' is released May 8th, for which her gaze is focused on the architecture of the ear and its auditory illusions. She has received commissions from the Riot Ensemble, Zubin Kanga, Nonclassical, Lisson Gallery, Spitalfields Music Festival, and crafted soundtracks for experimental film (Britta Thie), feminist documentary (Carmen Dusmet Carrasco), and the award winning feature film STOPMOTION by Robert Morgan, which received which received a world premiere at Fantastic fest, 2023, and its European Premiere at the London Film Festival, 2023. Lola’s first release, feminist concept EP REMISE EN BOUCHE (palate cleanser) (2018) on Chicago net label Pan y Rosas Discos was followed by The Embalmer (2021) on the Nonclassical label, and KOH - Klee - uh (2022) on SA Recordings. Her avant-garde pieces garnered high parise from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 3, NTS, Resonance FM and more. Lola’s curatorial practice emphasises projects which centre women, non-binary and queer artists. Projects include, NTS radio, Parallel Praxis interdisciplinary artist group, 'The Gaze' for Nonclassical, 'Women in Music digital festival' (2021) for The Feminist Library, and 'Nulla 0, a monolith' with Rich Mix/Spitalfield Music. Lola is currently undertaking a scholarship funded PhD in composition on tinnitus, ear tones and the work of Maryanne Amacher.
