Regensburg isn’t really the place you imagine when you think about a techno-mecca. However, good music is at home there. In contrast to many people, who think too much about themselves and their electronic music, Markus Guentner prefers the lower Bavarian province and meddles there with his tracks, which are gladly welcomed at the Cologne label Kompakt to the same extent as at Matthias Schaeffhaeuser’s Ware imprint. Markus got his keen sense of music right from the start and was already, at pre-school age, sold on everything that came out of the radio. His parents supported him as much as they couls and so it happened that he became the owner of his first record player at the age of 8, on which he listened to his favourite record by Madonna on heavy rotation. By the age of 14 he possessed two turntables including a mixer and now instead of Madonna he listened to LFO vs. Fuse with their classic 'Loop'. In the following years Markus became one of the most wanted DJs in Regensburg, establishing the Bavarian province capital on the techno-scene-map together with the teichmaenner, and even managed to bring DJs like Sven Vath, DJ hell and Westbam to Regensburg. Guentner has since made his mark as a producer thanks to releases like ‘Regensburg’, his ‘Untitled EP’ on Ware or his debut album ‘In Moll’, proving himself to be a capable arranger of minimal and ambient sounds. After the release of his debut album in 2001 Guentner's tracks injected some groove and along with its follow-up ‘Audio Island’ 2 years later some genial tech-house-tracks began to shape. He has since released a third longplayer called '1981' and will see his fourth album released on Ware Records in 2006. His remix of the Talk Talk classic ‘Such A Shame’ has been spun around on turntables all over the world and like his tracks, Markus guentner is gladly seen in places from the USA to Asia to Europe. Markus Guentner vehemently proves that his understanding of house and techno goes far beyond dub and minimal house.
