  • Since 2007 Matt has been rising slowly through the ranks. From warm up to headliner, from an unknown to becoming an official resident for The Gallery at Ministry of Sound.
“I really enjoyed Matt’s set, with great track selection and impeccable mixing he provided a quality deep journey through house…” Saytek (Cubism) Matt’s rise started in 2007, an opening set for Belocca & Soneec in T2 at Turnmills being his first major club performance. Regular sets in the legendary venue playing alongside the likes of Anil Chawla, Jon Rundell, Tristan Da Cunha and Tania Von Pear did not go without notice. When the venue sadly closed its doors for the final time Matt was voted as the ‘Future Hero DJ’ by the clubbers, resulting in Matt’s name being introduced to the rest of clubland. As a London regular, sets were being played at The White House, Gigalum, Mass and Plan B as well as numerous main room performances at Pacha. After entering a DJ competition Matt was selected out of 650 entrants to play in the Trackitdown arena at Dance Island Festival which boasted Audio Bullies, Freemasons and Stanton Warriors on the lineup. Catching the eye of the media Matt was given a full page spread in TillLate Magazine who named Matt as ‘The One To Watch’ in 2009. This was followed by Trackitdown.net who also branded Matt with the title in early 2010 and later followed up by American publication, DJ Times. Taking note of his consistent sets, Matt soon achieved every DJ’s dream and in 2010 played the main room (the box) at Ministry of Sound. Warming up for Hernan Cattaneo he had the opportunity to directly hand the floor over to Sister Bliss (Faithless) which was a dream come true. Little did he know this was to be the start of a fruiticious relationship with the club. Following this, Matt was snapped up by forward thinking promotion ElectronicSessions. Having impressed during his sets on the Thames boat parties he was awarded with his first monthly residency. The residency was held for 2 years during which Matt was regularly handing over to the likes of Jody Wisternoff, Jon O Bir, Manuel De La Mere and Guy J. Elsewhere Matt continued to make his mark with appearances at Pacha, Ministry, KOKO, 93 Feet East, Public Life, The Russian and many more. His own promotion, FreshEra, ran with his brother, was also launched. Building up a steady following, FreshEra promoted both nights in London and locally which eventually lead to hosting the dance tent at a local festival with Riley and Durrant booked as their own headliners after securing a DJ set from Enter Shikari the year before following their main stage performance. “Thanks a lot to Matt Weeks for playing perfectly before us. The “warm-up” is a lost art that few DJs pull off well…” Riley & Durrant (Electrik Playground / Cream / Capital FM) In 2012 Matt was called in for a meeting at Ministry of Sound’s office. This resulted in him being asked to be house music (room 2) resident for The Gallery (Friday Nights) alongside long term heavyweight residents Markus Schulz, Tall Paul, Sister Bliss (Faithless), Gavyn Mytchel and Steve Lee. As an official Ministry of Sound resident Matt was playing monthly in room 103 anywhere from warm up to closing sets, sharing the decks with room 2 guests such as Hoxton Whores, Tall Paul, Seamus Haji and Ant Brooks whilst the likes of Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Simon Paterson and Eddie Halliwell rocked the main room. During his residency Matt was also handpicked to play the DJ Mag Top 100 awards party in London which featured the World’s number one DJ – Armin Van Burren. Matt has achieved far more than he ever expected in such a short time and this was all accomplished solely as DJ. However, in 2013, with life outside of music taking off, the difficult decision was made to step down as The Gallery resident marking his early retirement from the scene. “With The Gallery’s resolve to blood new talent alongside those headline names, Matt Weeks perfectly fits the bill. A fast rising star, who embodies qualities essential for the flagship resident role.” The Gallery at Ministry of Sound
