- Mercury «These guys know how to make house music for the heart and soul. Nostalgic and infectious, one listen, and you’ll be hugging the nearest stranger.»Mercury is two guys. Mel, a former Hip-Hop DJ who recently discovered his love for gay rock music and ethno-influenced 80s synthesizer pop. Then Simon, actually a drummer who is still deep into UK 2-step music from the early post-millennium era. They both look like birds. Mel like a turkey. Simon like the cartoon bird on MTV who gets killed a million times by the angry cat. Together they play and produce neoclassic House music. For the rest of us it means: soulful, sometimes even gospel-ish, drum and percussion oriented, bass driven House with a slight vintage timbre. Cool stuff, you know. Mercury’s talent was first discovered by the world-acclaimed Dutch illustrator and Le Le member Parra, who invited the Swiss producing duo to create a remix of his band’s second single »Breakfast«. The remix ultimately became a true dance floor hit during 2009. In 2010, Mercury’s references to classic Chicago and Garage House became again clearly manifested with remixes for Tom Trago and Homework, the latter of which went high in the beatport House charts bringing attention to Mercury within the broader House scene. With their remixes for others Mercury constantly proved a refreshingly frank approach to House music – a potential which caught the attention of the legendary Munich based label Gomma Records, so much so that they signed Mercury on a long term contract releasing their debut EP »God d’Azur« in December 2010. Their sophomore EP »Sweetness« followed in September 2011 and is a run through dance music history from start to present. Mercury's modern old-school vibe on »Sweetness« was aptly summed up by Pedro "Busy P" Winter who commented «I am sure Kerri Chandler and Louie Vega will love this as much as I do! It's time to re- open Sound Factory». Mercury's third EP »Candlelight« feat.
