In the late 90’s, Michael attended some of San Francisco’s famous (and infamous) house music parties, signaling profound inspiration. The chunky, tech-house sound that was blasting onto the bay area’s dance floors moved him to start creating similar sounds but with his own twist. Michael’s proficiency on various musical instruments motivated
him to create dance music that sounded live and could also be
performed live. This feel for live performance and experimentation
also led Michael to join several electronic music combos, Evolectrik,
dotRock and Ribbon, performing at clubs and parties around the city.
However, it was Michael Ruris’ solo production that led him to San
Francisco label Handmade Recordings. His own sound draws inspiration from house music styles such as tech-house, minimal, and funky house, blending them together in a flavorful stew. Additionally, Michael also provides lyrics and vocals to many of his tracks helping to create a unique, live sound. This is especially evident on his recent single “Glow” for Handmade. Its breezy flow over hip-shaking rhythms and funky guitar hits gained the attention of global DJs like Onionz, Hector Moralez, Murray Richardson, Johnwaynes, Da Sunlounge, Miguel Graça, and Amir Groove (Ibiza Global Radio).
“For me, producing music is a lot like painting, with colors and
textures, shapes and layers, depth and perspective.” This distinct
approach to music production makes Michael Ruris’ tracks stand out in
a DJ’s set and creates anticipation for his future releases.
The year looks to be an exciting one with many new finished songs
waiting to be unveiled and a multitude of projects being worked on.
Michael’s relationship with Handmade Recordings will help provide the
outlet for all this material with a steady stream of releases to soon
follow. “I have been consistently creating music and finally feel I am
at the point in my life where I am ready to share it,” he says. “In
turn, I hope to inspire other people to be creative and make music
themselves.” With this artist’s attitude and a prolific release
schedule Michael Ruris is certainly a producer to keep an eye on.
