  • NIK NOWAK is a German artist, musician and curator. Sound objects such as Mobile Booster, Panzer or Echodrohnen have earned him recognition worlwide.
His interdisciplinary artistic projects are often concerned with the effect of sound, as well as the role of sound systems as cultural transmitters or acoustic weapons. Alongside his exhibition activity, he has pursued the phenomena of mobile sound systems for years, also from a scientific point of view, and he regularly gives talks on the subject. Among the projects he is passionate about, he also pursues music, regularly performing live or DJ sets, alone or with his band Schockglatze. His longtime projects DELETHE (in collaboration with Phillip Brandt) and ENCARNITA PROPIA (with Gabriel Rossell Santillan) reflect on the erasing of data after death, the languages in way of extinction and the disappearing of cultural traditions. In 2007, Nowak completed his art studies at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Germany. He studied under the tutelage of master scholar Prof. Lothar Baumgarten and in 2007, he attended Xiang Jing’s sculpture class at the Shanghai Normal University in China. He was granted the Georg Meistermann scholarship that same year. In 2014, he collaborated with the Marta Museum to curate the international exhibition BOOSTER Kunst Sound Maschine and was awarded the Gasag Art Prize, which celebrates outstanding artistic position at the intersection of Art, Science and Technology.
