  • 80s and 90s inspired Industrial, EBM an New Beat political rave machine.
The story so far… There was never any real plan. There was no band. There was no label. There was just an idea to create an 'art project' influenced by the Industrial / EBM sounds of the 80s, the rave sounds of the early 90s and inspired by the documentaries of Adam Curtis. Greed, debt and economic inequality. The rise in despotism and authoritarianism. Body modification. Citizenship and the breakdown in communal spirit. The politics of Thatcher and Reagan. The rise in the power of the markets. Some seriously un-rock n roll themes were fed into the melting pot. Add in a serious portion of heavy electronic grooves and over time a loose collection of studio ideas began to take shape. That was it though just ideas, something was definitely missing. Then one night in Manchester... After a night of DJing and raving there was a chance conversation at an afterparty with a couple of VJ's called Sean and Dan who worked under the name Meat Cassette. The memory is a little hazy as to the actual words spoken but the chat basically went something like this... "Lads I've got this idea for a new project. It's underground electronic music, it's political and it's influenced by Adam Curtis and it really needs some visuals." Meat Cassette - 'Sounds fucking great, we're in!". It was on. The collaboration with Meat Cassette hit the ground running. An early version of the Gary Numan inspired Enjoy More came first, followed by the Ministry fuelled Industrial Punk blast of The Markets. The ambient Arab Strap influenced War Games came next and then another blast of industrial punk with Debt Is King. The genres were all over the shop but a theme was taking shape. Then, after some serious ODing on Ministry and Nitzer Ebb, came Existing, Not Living. Game changer. All of sudden the R&M project was on more people's radars. It wasn't just Industrial music blogs taking note this time though, it was alternative music blogs, techno, underground electronic music blogs providing exposure. Sometime early 2014 a message comes through the R&M soundcloud from a guy called Nick over in Austin, Texas. something like... "I run a label called Young Cubs, what are you plans? You want to release a cassette" Fuck yeah. Now we're talking. People said a tape? Why? Nobody buys tapes! I still listen to tapes in the car. The $ocial £utures €P was born. August 2014 it's released on cassette in the US of A. Things started to happen. The €P got great reviews. People around the world were taking note. A remix of LA's 3Teeth came out. People went nuts for it. OK so lets try doing something live? So we started jamming out a few tracks at Attic Studios in Sheffield. Right this is working. A live show anyone? A debut show at Bloc Projects in Sheffield happened in February 2015. OK so the Bloc Projects show was actually really good, maybe we've got something here?! A remix of Static Starlight came out. Italian label Trashz Records released of couple R&M singles. A R&M remix of Cyanotic was unleashed. Then a support slot for 3Teeth in London happened. That was fucking great. Another 3Teeth remix happened. That was a banger. 2016 we did another show at Bloc Projects. Followed it up a few weeks later with a slot at Resistanz Festival, on the same bill as Godflesh. Fucking GODFLESH!! We smashed it up. Remixed Bestial Mouths. Finished the year supporting Youth Code. 2017 we nearly supported the legendary Cabaret Voltaire in a massive cave, alas the gig was cancelled. Gutted. Took some time out due the day job.. Then came back. Polish label Mecanica released a Schwefelgelb remix of R&M. It blew up...big time. It's still blowing up. Hope Tragedy Myths followed. It got some quality reviews. Industrial mega blog Idie:youdie got behind R&M. The release topped some of genre bestseller charts on bandcamp. Sales of the EP made some money for a domestic violence/abuse charity in Sheffield. More time out due to the day job. Came back again. August 2018 Hope Tragedy Myths & Remixes was released. It featured remixes from Rendered, Dinamite and Laura Palmer. It was awesome. That also topped some genre bestseller charts on bandcamp. A month later the Citizens EP was released. Boom. Straight into best seller genre charts on bandcamp. Now we're rolling! The first show in nearly two years happens at DINA Sheffield. It fucking ruled. Now here we are in 2019. This compilation, the debut Randolph & Mortimer album, is out. According to A Model Of Control it’s… "An absolutely outstanding release that is easily the best industrial release of 2019 thus far." Insane! What started off as an experiment has now resulted a full length album. Crazy. With more remixes out soon, a new collaborations EP with some quality European electronic artists being worked on as we speak and the second album almost complete the Randolph & Mortimer sound machine is officially on a mission.
