Kingston, Jamaica based DJ and producer Redselecter (Christopher Edmonds) is at the forefront of the new wave of house and electronic music from the Caribbean. In the studio and on the decks, the Redselecter sound is funky deep house and techno, with heavy dub, ragga and soca influences topped with an extra helping of soul. Redselecter’s musical aesthetic comes from a life steeped in rhythm- a voracious record collector growing up on a diet of disco, funk, early hip-hop, punk, new wave, ska, reggae and classic rock. Combine this with formal classical and jazz music training and a Master’s degree in electrical engineering and it leads to one simple outcome: Redselecter will make you dance. In 2011 after a number of years DJing in both the Caribbean and house music scenes, Christopher made the leap into production and emerged with a new sound and a new moniker- Redselecter. His first project came with friend and fellow reggae-turned-house music producer Jeremy Harding when they teamed up as production duo Stereo Massive. Their white label remixes of Martin Solveig’s “Hello” and dancehall star Mavado’s “Delilah” caught the attention of DJs in Miami, New York and London and their live shows became the go-to events to hear underground electronic music in Jamaica. Christopher and Jeremy also teamed with Italian electro producer Congorock, co-writing and co-producing the 2012 single “Bless Di Nation” (Ultra) featuring Sean Paul. In late 2011 Christopher began working on solo projects, starting with an official remix of “Ho’s & Bro’s” for Rob Paine’s iconic Worship Recordings out of Philadelphia. This was followed by his debut Redselecter single, “Dig A Deep Hole”, an official remix of DJ Power’s electro-soca hit “Fly So High” featuring Machel Montano and Kardinal Offishall and an additional single entitled “650 Channels”.
