- REFRAKT layers sounds and melodies into a hypnotic mixture of dark disco, melodic techno, and world beats, transporting the listener through modulations and feedback loops.REFRAKT is the alias of Ian Daly, an American producer and DJ based in New York City. Born in Flint, Michigan, Daly grew up in a musical family with the Detroit house scene as a backdrop. A classically-trained pianist, drummer, and guitarist, Daly pulls from this broad musical vocabulary to bring melodic hooks, interlocking rhythms, and complex textures to his tracks. His music bears the influence of his travels and exposure to unique musical styles and instruments, including Brazilian and African music, Persian classical music, Indian ragas, and the Balinese gamelan (which Daly has performed in). Prior to his work in music production, Daly spent more than a decade as a journalist at International publications such as Details, Esquire, Wired, and The New York Times and spend six years working in strategy at Live Nation, the largest live entertainment company in the world. REFRAKT is signed to Phisica and his recent “False Memories” EP charted in the top 20 on Beatport (Indie Dance genre). His next EP, Hidden Temple, will be released 11/23 on Emerald & Doreen. Daly has performed around the world, from New York City (House of Yes) and Los Angeles, to Berlin (Neue Odessa, Georgia Bar, Crackers), and Tulum (Ahau, Panamera, Radio Tulum, Nü, Delek). He has also played at Life Is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas, Neversea and Untold festivals in Europe, and Colours of Love in Thailand.
