Born in the UK and raised in Beirut, William Mahfoud (a.k.a. Rise 1969) is considered a staple in the Lebanese rave scene, drawing influences from the punk, techno, drum and bass, ambient and experimental communities. After leaving to finish his audio production BSc at SAE London, he ended up working with several mixing and mastering studios in London, Dubai and Beirut. Recently, his focus has shifted onto his music, and has recently released his second album on DMT Records alongside various EPs and remixes. In addition to holding a residency at Projekt (Beirut), he has also organised parties of his own and played most notably at The Grand Factory (Beirut), The Ballroom Blitz (Beirut), Electrowerkz (London) and The Ministry of Sound (London), as well as collaborating with many other promoters and artists on a wide range of projects in various fields (films, advertising, theatre, dance). After winning this year’s Beirut Berlin Express competition organised by The Grand Factory, he has just spent the summer at BlackHead Studios in Berlin under the mentorship of Moodmusic Records boss Sasse, and is set to release his new album next month.
