Frankie Knuckles: "...scott K...[is one of] the nicest guys in the business. Maximum love & tremendous respect!" DJ Magazine: scott K. voted as one of DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs VICE magazine: In addition to dabbling in some music production under a couple of different aliases, scott K. is also the head of his BOXMUSIC vinyl-only bootleg label, and the founder of the seminal Los Angeles underground house & disco party called WE OWN THE NIGHT. Other than that, he doesn’t want us to tell you anything about him. He says he is a big believer in mystique and that the internet has ruined everything. This makes it a bit difficult for us, bio-writing-wise. I guess all we can tell you is our opinion, which is that Scott is a nice and multi-talented man who currently does a lot of stuff that we enjoy. Scott K.: I was in the second generation of househeads from Chicago that grew up listening to the true Godfathers like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy. I had been dj'ing in Chicago since I was about 14 years old, but things didn't really get crazy until I made the move to LA. After getting voted into the DJ Mag Top 100, I suddenly received offers to play all over the world...and I did...and it sucked. The money was great. The traveling was great. But the super-clubs I was being booked at were full of edm bros and people that were just there to be seen. The music wasn't authentic, and neither were the crowds. I burnt out fast and basically retreated back to the Los Angeles scene where I started a couple of big underground nights (first Dig, then Nitty Gritty, and later We Own The Night). Getting back to real people and real music was everything. There's not much out there that can compete with a proper LA underground, so I've just been laying low and enjoying the scene here. I do still get the bug to travel sometimes, and I think in the years ahead I'll entertain some offers here and there...if anyone still remembers who I am. 🤣 For now, though I couldn't be happier doing what I love to do for the LA househeads who appreciate the real thing. Up next, the big boss, DJ Sneak and I are starting another LA underground called CHI♥LA, and I've been asked by Chicago's legendary Chosen Few DJ's to get an LA night started with them as well. I've also put out a bunch of white-label bootlegs under a few aliases but we can't really talk about that publically now can we?
