- Shafunkers are the UK based dj/producers Alex McCulloch and Austin Moore. Their sound combines funk, tech, progressive, electro, vocal and acid house flavours to create groove shaking house tunes that find their way into all big name jocks record boxes..Shafunkers are the Manchester based production duo Alex McCulloch and Austin Moore. The pair, both students at Salford University in 1997, met through being randomly placed next door to each other in student halls. Having quickly realised they both shared a passion for making music they began their musical partnership by creating drum and bass and breakbeat tracks under the guise of Sinewave. Both classically trained musicians with influences ranging from Jazz to The Beatles, the duos mutual love of dance music eventually led to them to begin producing house together. Their first ever release was a remix for San Francisco's Red Melon records with none other than Yousef. After this they then quickly signed to Premier Sounds. Their first two releases on the Prime Distribution backed label picked up support from Seb Fontaine, Steve Lawler, Clive Henry amongst others. Choo Choo then signed up the pair exclusively, the duo's first EP entitled 'Rhythm Design' picked up massive props from James Zabiela and Mixmag. Experiments with live instrumentation, vocals and breakbeats continued and Shafunkers then signed to Distreakt Records. Everyday on Distreaktions received huge plays from Tom Stefan to DJ Paulette. 2005 has seen the boys step up their studio work with releases on Fantastic House, Cr2 records and Saved Records. Their Girls and Boyz EP on Fantastic House received support from Nic Fanciulli, Deep Dish, Desyn Masiello, Mark Knight, Seamus Haji, Martin Ten Velden, Jon Carter, Demi, Smokin Jo and many more. This has also found its way onto Greg Vickers new mix compilation. You Don’t See Me (released on Cr2 Records) has also received heavy rotation from Fanciulli, Lee Cabrera, Steve Mac, MYNC, Tong etc and featured on Fanciulli’s DMC Live compilation. The duo continue to rise up the ranks - remixing and producing original tracks for Vapourise, Sr2 Music, C2 Recs, Spin Out and Deeper Substance Recordings.
