Slowburn, like their name suggests, are on a measured but magical rise through the underground ranks, and have been since meeting in the booth a few years ago. It was actually one night at Acii Disco in Dublin that Phil was warming up for Dave when this pair realised they shared plenty of common musical ground, and since then they have been jamming out productions with plenty of success. Before long, it was the revered Uzuri label head that came calling for Slowburn’s authentic, spacey Chicago and Detroit influenced sounds, eventually releasing them on a split EP with scene luminaries Chicago Skyway, Juju & Jordash and Ksoul & Muteoscillator. Building on that early success, EPs have followed on Lunar Disko, Austere and Elektrosouls, with tracks also appearing on a VA release by the respected local Apartment outlet and on a compilation on Grounded in Humanity. “When we make music, we just try and capture the mood at that moment,” say the pair. “We never set out to make anything in particular we just jam and take things as they come. I guess we usually try to have a strong sense of melody with our pads and always try to and keep a good flow.” When working together in the DJ booth, Slowburn also share a fine understanding of dancefloor dynamics and infectious groove and so far have played places such as Twisted Pepper, Tripod and Electric Picnic, as well as Life Festival and Manchester’s DEAF Institute, always joining the dots between their old influences as well as carefully picked out modern gems from the worlds of house and techno. As bright has been their journey to date, Slowburn are only really getting started, with more EPs lined-up on Austere, a remix coming on Appain and solo works from Dave on Land of Dance Records. As such, they are a genuinely hot proposition for fans of connoisseur house sounds.
