  • Detroit native Steingold blends vintage techno, electro, house and disco along with afrofunk, old/new school hip hop while performing at festivals worldwide with Beastie Boy Mike D.
Steingold has been near the epicenter of many major musical movements over the past four decades, starting Detroit in the 1980s, when he would tune-in to mysterious radio DJ The Wizard (i.e., Jeff Mills), whose mix of robotic electro and party-rocking hip-hop would inspire a generation of Detroit pioneers, from Richie Hawtin to DJ Assault. He built his reputation with regular gigs throughout the early ‘00s at Detroit fixtures like Alvin’s, The Shelter and Motor, sharing bills with local legends like Derrick May and visiting stars Z-Trip while receiving wisdom from none other than J Dilla. Moving to Los Angeles in 2004, he made connections with scene leaders like Peanut Butter Wolf, and toured with Common and Lupe Fiasco. Steingold forays into music production resulted in Hard & Soul, a partnership with Elvis Suarez that bore fruit with a remix for Mayer Hawthorne’s Tuxedo project, “2nd Time Around,” that dropped on Stones Throw in 2017 and became an immediate staple in sets by Busy P and Cassius. Further music as Hard & Soul as well as additional collaborations with SPNCR and Lee Curtiss then appeared on Strictly Rhythm A&R guru Gladys Pizarro's new Launch Entertainment imprint, Lee Foss’ Repopulate Mars and Soul Clap’s House of EFunk imprints respectively. Today, you’ll find Steingold touring the world with Beastie Boy Mike D, blending vintage techno, electro, house and disco along with afrofunk, old/new school hip hop plus the occasional Beasties tune all into frenetic sets that have taken festival audiences by storm, from Boston Calling to Primavera Barcelona. A massive party and musical masterclass weaved together in a way only a DJ from Detroit can deliver.
