  • THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST IN SUZI WONG. AFTER 15 YEARS OF DJING I DECIDED TO GIVE UP MY PROFESSIONAL DJ CAREER. LIFE GOES ON... ;-) (If someone of RA is reading this, please delete my profile!!! Obviously there is no option to do it by myself.)
Suzi Wong's DJ career began in the mid-1990s after infecting herself with the growing techno fever, and hence traded her piano for DJ equipment. This was followed by the classic string of events: mix tapes, bar and basement gigs, joy, disappointment, until finally after a few years larger clubs began to express interest. The indispensable move from the Niedersachsen area of Germany to Berlin was a progressive move at the end of the 1990s. Her first residency was in a small Kreuzberg underground club called the Dönerlounge that had a Döner (kebab) booth in the back. This location was a door-opener for Suzi because as much as the venue was quite droll to bizarre, the Thursday „Dönerstag“ parties drew a crowd of the Who's Who of the Berlin techno scene. Today she has played in almost every Berlin techno club. Her residencies are in Tresor and Maria am Ostbahnhof clubs. During her career her musical horizon stretches from techno to house, through broken beats to electronica and electro. The motto: everything that's good must be heard and played! The love of music, curiosity and versatility all are impulsive forces for Suzi, and this results in no DJ set being like the other. Spinning with vinyl is today still an honor for her. She isn't interested in other formats. Until Decemeber 2009 Suzi also expressed her musical diversity on the radio. For almost six years she hosted the live show „Coke DJ-Culture On Air“ together with DJ B.Side on the Berlin radio station Jam FM. Every Friday evening both DJs presented different genres of club music. Radio guests live in the studio included Afrika Bambaataa, Carl Craig, DJ Premier or David Rodigan. Part of the project was also touring, in which she performed alongside Juan Atkins, Blake Baxter, RJD2 and Andrea Parker. Internationl gigs followed such as Sonne, Mond & Sterne or Rock am Ring. At the same time Suzi completed her graduate degree in cultural science and publicity, as well as a podcast „Frauen in DJ Culture“ (see audio menue). The equality of DJ culture, support of up and coming artists and active cultural work in the Berlin techno scene have become more and more important for her. Following her studies she has worked for the Berlin club WMF as head of booking and PR. Now she is manager of the Rotation Boutique Berlin together with her boyfriend Nikolaus Schäfer, a platform for music, fashion and art, associated with the record store Rotation Records. End of 2011 Suzi decided to give up her professional DJ carreer.
