  • Torin Edmond is an integral part of the house music scene. As a DJ, he skillfully builds sets using an audio alchemy of sound, feeling, connection and artistry that consistently moves dance floors.
There are places in Chicago where the true spirit and soul of house music rises to greet dancers and head bobbers alike. Arms are raised and people yell praises to the DJ for taking them higher. Torin has a knack for figuring out what people need, when they need it. This makes for a party experience that promotes the deepest groove and disperses a divine vibe. These keen sensibilities and his passion for house music were honed in the music’s birthplace - Chicago. In the early 80’s house music made its way out of gay and other progressive nightclub spots to the masses via radio station WBMX. Torin and many of his peers were immediately entranced. All-age clubs like The Warehouse, C.O.D., The Powerhouse, and The Gallery dotted the city where now legendary DJs like Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy and many others dominated the turntables and moved the crowds. Torin watched, listened and developed his own style. Eventually integrating what would later be known as underground and deep house rhythms into his growing repertoire, he began playing small parties around the city. Building a larger and loyal audience throughout college where he was the host of a house music radio show, “Underground Audio”. In the 90’s production and remix experiences with Steve ’Silk” Hurley, including a remix for Janet Jackson’s hit Runaway helped to further shape Torin’s skill set. He also realized a dream of having his edits of popular songs played nationally on the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Torin continues creating and remixing music on his own label as well as for Sophisticato Records (Vick Lavender) and Love4SouL Music (Dee Jay Cease). Seeking more opportunities to share his music with house fans, Torin was invited by Anthony Nicholson to promote and DJ a monthly Inner Sound System event at Sonotheque - a club known for its pristine décor and sound system in the mid 2000’s. Following Sonotheque’s closure, Torin continued to play various clubs such as The Shrine, while fostering community on the burgeoning DJ and dancer house-focused Deep House Page (DHP) where he has been a co-owner of the legendary website for 15 years. DHP was a hub for house music knowledge where DJ’s from converge to discuss house music and share knowledge about the industry. Several headliner, guest appearances and a stellar reputation led to a shared residency at Chant with Chosen Few DJ Alan King since 2012. Torin continues to curate sets with some of Chicago’s most well-known and loved DJs at Chant. He also enjoys performing extended (four hours or more) sets that allow him to connect with and musically journey with the crowd. Opening the 2014 Chosen Few Picnic, which welcomed an estimated 40,000 house devotees, garnered more fans and deepened his commitment to sharing this amazing music with even more audiences. Whether it's a rare vinyl cut from his over three decades deep collection, a well-loved classic or his own production, Torin takes you somewhere musically you've never been before but you're always glad you came along for the ride.
