With careful attention to arrangement and intricate composition, his music ranges from mood draped, rhythmic soundscapes to playful club tracks.VAVAV is the alias of musician, DJ, composer and arranger Emil Bovbjerg. A long-time New York resident originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Bovbjerg has had a long and varied trajectory in music. His experience as an arranger and composer, writing scores for both small and large ensembles in the modern jazz realm, utilizing classical orchestration techniques with rich harmonic structure makes for an uncommon musical progression and brings about a character in his productions that is at once both contextually integrated and highly recognizable. As a DJ as well as a producer VAVAV is analog powered, deep and soulful with a taste for melodic rhythms and bass lines. A warm, stripped down sound, simple and clear of cosmetic effect. His music is as much influenced by Gil Evans and Oliver Nelson as Jeff Mills and ranges from mood draped, rhythmic soundscapes to playful club tracks.
