  • Wedro is a dj and producer based in Florence, IT, former member of Overload Tekno Klan. Coming from a solid freeparty/warehouse background (and after having converted many abandoned buildings and squots as dancefloors since the late 90's),he keeps o..
Born and raised in Florence (Italy), Pietro Tacconi aka "Wedro" starts collecting music in 1996, and joins forces in 1997 with other local guys (Tasker, Morph, Jeki DR.Smooth, SkyWalker, Lura', Rat, U:F:O, Lobo), to create and expand what became an original techno collective, Overload Tekno Klan. His first home had been a local occupied social center named "CSA Indiano", were OTK had the chance to promote their very first techno parties, aimed at danceheads usually not satisfied by local clubs (at the time very silk/club house oriented). The first years were seminal to grab the essence of techno sound in our minds: UR, Robert Hood, Surgeon, Plastikman, The Advent were in full rotation in our sets, as much as Drexciya, Squarepusher or more electro tracks. In 2001, CSA Indiano closes its doors and OTK, following the already established european freeparty scene, begins to throw parties after parties in abandoned buildings and old warehouses near Florence (usually in the so-called "Chiantishire") and relocates its powerful sound system in another CSA (The "Elettro+") in 2003. At that time, Wedro shifts from his drummachine/groovebox session (although he likes to play vinyl too) to the first reliable DVS system with Traktor, playing mainly hardtek/freetek and hardgroove tracks. Collaborations with other crews leads eventually to support many big events, like the occupation of Cascine Park for 3 days ("72 Ore di resistenza"), many street parades in Bologna, the official party of 2002's International Social Forum in Florence, not to mention several Teknivals around Italy. Freeparty days keep flowing easy till 2008, when OTK sound system finds a new , yet final home in CSA Next-Emerson, where it still resides and it's used to support not just OTK parties but also other groups and collectives of friends (FreshPump, Numa Crew, Innercity Jungle just to name a few). At the same time, Wedro begins to explore other nuances of electronic music like electro or techy house, and come back to "slower" (130) techno tracks. In 2005 he grabs a montly residence at local club Fabrik, till 2011. In 2008 he joins forces with roman "SubWoofer" gay bear group and helps promoting and playing during gatherings, bear parties and Gay Pride parades in Rome and Istanbul. For a couple of years (2010-2012), he stretches from his usual 4x4 frame to play also dubstep and drumstep, helped by the local strong dubstep/dnb scene, while still keeping a foot in the freeparty scene. In 2013, after many years of djing and sound manipulation, he decides to have a serious twist at production, takes some classes in mixing/mastering and starts producing his first tracks. Debut comes with "Someday EP", released by portoguese label 7Teen Records in 2015. Speaking of current tastes, Wedro considers techno as a genre of music that gives the listener the freedom to imagine the sounds interplaying between various levels of perception, as well as barely listen'em. This feature places techno music in a culturally relevant and socially generative position, giving the listener the responsibility of listening, and this is much more than just a physical (and psychological) individual experience. Wedro places himself oscillating between the classic "chordy" rolling Detroit sound, the southern European techno and the British techno vibes, with a sweet spot for complex, polyrhythmic, eerie ambient atmospheres and solid (but not too boomy) kicks. Being a ITB guy, Wedro is in love again with his copy of Ableton and Operator (his weapon of choice) and gobbles tons of resources on sound design, mastering and mixing, happily convinced that learning never stops. His work has expanded including collaborations with theatrical/acrobatic groups like Dynamide. An incoming release has been planned to come out on Berlin located VMR label for december 2015, as well as the launch of an artist collective in the first half of 2016 under the Compass Sound project. Apart from gigging and testing tracks or sets, at the moment he's involved in co-hosting a regular electronic jam session named Machine Funk and contributes to the (recently re-squotted) Ex Indiano sound community in Florence.
